Organisers’ comments:
A lot of activity near the Visitor Centre, and areas rendered unusable by the weekend’s major concerts, forced us to move our base to the south of the Town Park using Grange Pool car park which is unfortunately only small. It also meant concentrating courses on areas which perhaps don’t get as much usage for Orienteering events. Walking round those areas was on occasion akin to a voyage of discovery, as new paths, fields and potential control sites came to light, in an area we thought we had explored well during the restricted walk time of the first couple of lockdowns in 2020. Hopefully the planning brought out the best of some of those interesting areas.
The abundant undergrowth at this time of year meant that we kept control sites to relatively accessible spots close to paths so apologies to those who would have loved a “TD” 4 or 5! We thank all those who turned out to take part, and thankfully it even stayed dry enough for some to make use of the picnic benches. We also owe a big thanks to Richard, Clive and Mike who all helped. As much as we like to think we could do a small event like this all by ourselves, the technical expertise, help and support of other willing club members makes all the difference in being able to enjoy the day. The new Battery unit which will replace our petrol generator was also given its first outing and Richard has confirmed that it performed admirably.
